Turn Gmail attachments into a ZIP file

Gmail attachments to ZIP is a useful workflow when a folder of files needs to move together. Instead of downloading files from messages one by one, Mail Senses searches the Gmail labels and dates you select, then prepares one ZIP file. The ZIP keeps matching files grouped in folders named for their Gmail labels.

How it works

  1. Decide whether a ZIP is the right format. A ZIP is easier to move, share, or store when you have many related files. Individual Gmail downloads are fine for a few documents, but they are slow when a project spans many messages.
  2. Connect Gmail to Mail Senses and grant read-only access. The app can read the messages needed to find attachments, but it cannot send email, modify labels, or delete anything from your Gmail account.
  3. Pick the inbox or labels to include and set a date range. Narrowing the search to the period you need keeps unrelated files out of the ZIP. Use Gmail search and filename:pdf when you need to manually find a specific file type.
  4. Wait for the results, then download the ZIP. Files are stored inside folders based on the Gmail labels you selected, which helps separate invoices, receipts, or project mail after you unzip the download.
  5. For a large mailbox, make several smaller ZIP files by splitting the work into date ranges, such as one month or quarter at a time. Smaller searches are easier to check and avoid creating one oversized archive.

Why use Mail Senses

  • Keep attachments together in one download instead of saving files from many Gmail messages.
  • Preserve useful organization with a folder in the ZIP for each Gmail label that you selected.
  • Download ZIP files for free. Prepared files are automatically deleted after 10 minutes, and Gmail is the only supported provider for now.

Frequently asked questions

How large can a Gmail attachments ZIP be?
Mail Senses does not set a separate ZIP size limit. Gmail, your browser, available disk space, and the number of selected files can affect a large download. Split a broad search into smaller date ranges if needed.
Is the ZIP file password protected?
No. The ZIP is not password protected. Save it somewhere private and use your usual secure sharing method if the attachments contain sensitive information.
Can I open the ZIP on Windows or Mac?
Yes. Windows and macOS can normally open ZIP files without extra software. Double-click the downloaded file, then extract it to a folder you choose.
What happens if some attachments fail to download?
The results show the files that were prepared and identify when downloads could not be completed. You can retry with a smaller label or date range if a broad search has problems.
Can I add attachments from Outlook to the ZIP?
Not yet. Mail Senses creates ZIP files from Gmail attachments only for now.
